Today was the final day of the Cassini spacecrafts 13 year mission (19 if you count travel time). Running low on fuel, dealing with the constant radiation exposure, and overall planned trajectory lead to the final endpoint for Cassini as it was sent into Saturn’s atmosphere to collect final pieces of data before burning up. In total it completed 293 orbits and sent back over 600 gigs of data including amazing pictures of the rings and moons of Saturn. Think about the planning and design involved in this piece of technology and what we could do now with 20-25 years of more technology. Where should we look next?
