A research team out of Johns Hopkins is working to push the limits of drones for the safe and effective transport of human blood and other health related samples. Using a specially designed cooling unit, the researchers showed that it was possible to transport the blood over 160 miles via drone without loss of sample viability. Entrepreneurs and health professionals have been pushing the limits of drones for the past few years, from delivery of contraceptives in Africa to rapidly transporting blood for transfusions in Rwanda to designs for delivery of AEDs to heart attack patients. Drone’s will continue to expand in presence across the globe and not just for military or Amazon deliveries. How do you see drones being used in your profession in the coming years?
