Bio-materials Scientist

DESCRIPTION KEY ROLE

Provide Scientific, Engineering, and Technical Assistance (SETA) support to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Provide technical support and expertise to support the development and management of current and planned programs at the intersection of marine science, materials, science, and engineering.  Planned programs aim to develop novel bio-inspired and bio-mimetic materials. Assimilate and integrate technical inputs from academic, government, and industrial R&D performers , and analyze performers’ technical deliverables and reports. Conduct technical writing, development/refinement of briefing materials, and other program documentation using MS Word and MS PowerPoint. Conduct independent review and summary of related technical literature and emerging technologies, and participate in conferences and workshops related to program technical areas. Development and document testing methodology and protocols, ensuring they align with program technology components. Assess performer results against program metrics. Coordinate, align, and schedule technology development tasks across multiple performers and performer continuous analysis of technical progress in comparison to planned cost and schedule. Perform technical and programmatic risk analysis/review and tracking. This position is located in the Washington metropolitan area (WMA).

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience in materials science and biological/bio-inspired materials.
  • Strong technical writing skills with an ability to communicate complex scientific ideas to broad audiences.
  • Digest basic and applied research across areas of materials science and bio-meimetic and bio-inspired materials chemistry
  • Demonstrate a willingness to explore the scientific literature for emerging biotechnology.
  • US Citizen with ability to obtain a Security Clearance; active Security Clearance preferred.
  • Ph.D. in a field relevant to the support of materials science and bio-mimetic and bio-inspired materials-related programs. Postdoctoral and/or industry experience preferred. Must possess a breadth of expertise to assess technologies across a broad range of applications.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience in marine science.
  • Previous experience in providing direct support to DARPA or similar research organizations, including the development of a new start program, and in the subsequent support of the source selection process.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and coordination are required. Must be able to handle a wide variety of tasks, such as briefing support and general administrative actions.

Neuroscientist

  • US Citizen with ability to obtain a Security Clearance; active Security Clearance preferred.
  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience or Neurobiology. A combination of neuroscience and biology is preferred.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience managing Government funded R&D is strongly preferred. This experience could include providing continuous support for program development and oversight including managing solicitations such as Broad Agency Announcements (BAA) or RFPs, drafting technical documentation in support of program goals and outcomes, evaluating technical and cost proposals for compliance with solicitation and in consideration of novel approaches that move technology beyond the state of the art, developing program strategies (metrics, milestones, and goals), managing SBIR/ STTRs, and in crafting compelling, concise briefs to communicate the science to a variety of audiences
  • Excellent organization, communication, and coordination are required. Must be able to handle a wide variety of tasks, such as briefing support and general administrative actions.

Science & Technology Consultant

DESCRIPTION KEY ROLE

Work as a technical consultant with Government and commercial R&D clients developing, managing, and transitioning cutting edge research programs and related applications. Possible specializations sub-areas include mathematics, chemistry, biology, materials science, physics, computer science, engineering, or related fields. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Monitor and assess development in emerging basic science and engineering technologies
  • Maintain and leverage technical expertise to provide clients with strategic assessments of new technologies and develop technical research programs
  • Interact with top scientists and engineers to guide their research toward new and revolutionary advances
  • Create technical reports, communicate findings to stakeholders, track and guide technical progress of client contracts, and perform other related tasks as required by the client

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Materials Science, Physics, Computer science, Engineering or related field
  • 3+ years of experience with research related to energy technology research
  • Ability to demonstrate expertise through multiple original contributions in peer-reviewed journals 
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
  • Relocation to the Washington, DC area
  • US citizenship

Financial and Program Management Analyst

DESCRIPTION KEY ROLE

Provide onsite contract and financial management of multi–performer government research programs. Track performer deliverables, monitor contract performance, and liaise between client and external government organizations. Ensure financial management of government activities, including the monitoring of performer expenditures, develop mitigation strategies for underruns or overruns, and execute funding actions proactively to meet obligation goals. Provide administrative support through the planning and execution of program meetings, workshops, teleconferences, or conferences and tracking of government property, equipment, and inventory. Develop and present briefings and reports on program status and provide quick–turn responses to client data calls. Assist with the creation, revisions, and routing of approval documentation, solicitations, justifications, and source selection documentation, including quality control of the documents. Coordinate with government personnel across multiple internal teams to ensure comprehensive program management of research initiatives. This position is located in the Washington metropolitan area (WMA).

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with providing administrative and financial support to research or development programs
    • 5+ years of experience in a federal contracting environment
    • Experience with tracking multiple simultaneous research or development activities
    • TS/SCI clearance
    • BA or BS degree required

Energy Technology Consultant

DESCRIPTION KEY ROLE

Monitor and assess technology development in high-potential, high-impact energy technologies. Possible specializations sub-areas include power grid, natural gas, renewable energy, batteries/storage, nuclear fission/fusion, materials science, PV, biofuels, plant science, transportation and power electronics technologies. Work as a technical consultant to Government and commercial R&D clients and work with world-class scientists in driving forward cutting edge research and related research-based applications. Maintain and leverage technical expertise and relationships in serving clients to provide strategic assessments of new technologies in support of senior decision-makers. Create technical reports, present finding, track technical progress of client contracts, develop technology program plans, and perform other related tasks as required by the client. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field
