Letters attributed to Alan Turning were discovered earlier this year at the University of Manchester and recently made available online. Alan Turing, probably best known these days for the Turing test, a test to determine the intelligence of a computer or AI, was also a critical component of the British team who broke the Enigma code during WWII. As a genius who was later ostracized, jailed, and underwent forced medical procedures, these writings shed more insight onto a man who passed before his time. The letters provide insight on Turing’s thoughts on computing, AI, and mathematics.
